braving the cellar

  • Posted on April 17, 2013 at 2:23 pm

crystalorn and amberglas are taking part in a swap on doa, with a couple of other tinies. crystal has already made a new bff, since her partner loves pink, flowers and lace as much as crystal! she is taking amber in hand since amber’s partner is also rather girly and she says amber is a great sister, but she just doesn’t understand pink! 😆

here the two of them are ready to go down into the basement to look for swap fabric. they put on their hiking boots, and crystal insisted on taking her flashlight, even though we have lots of light in the basement. they are ready for serious work!

taking a break

  • Posted on March 26, 2013 at 11:34 pm

we had a pretty crazy month here, with a serious illness of one of my kids, so it’s been a while since i’ve had a chance to update, but today we decided it was time for a break and took 4 of the girls on a walk round the lake. eilidh discovered a tree that was filled with holes made (we think) by a woodpecker and just had to explore. she had a great time climbing in and out of the holes. i loved the color of her hair against the bark and snapped a few pictures.

here’s my favorite shot

lucy hiked through the snow and climbed a tree for her shot, all while managing to stay looking as chic as always, though she has informed me that next on her wish list is a black jean skirt!

i never said my girls were practical. aerin also wore dress shoes for hiking and climbing trees!

kiri was camera shy today, but we’re out again tomorrow if the weather holds, so i’ll have to try catch her then.

quick and easy photo lights/light box

  • Posted on February 22, 2013 at 4:12 pm

i got some new “photo” lights for christmas, and tried them out for the first time today. i’m really pleased with how much they improved the picture quality. this is basically untouched (i changed the color slightly- the daylight bulbs weren’t quite right but that was it, normally i do a lot more editing than that) i’m impressed since i picked something really tough to try-really high contrast both in terms of dark/light clothes and the vividness of lucy’s coloring vs the emmie’s delicate tones

(lucy is introducing emmie, who is too shy to meet everyone on her own)

here is my set up. it was pretty simple. a couple of clips from the dollar store hold up the foamcore board backdrop. (an idea i got off an internet tutorial, sorry i can’t remember where) this works so much better than propping it up against a box on the table! it was always sliding or falling over when i did that. the lights are $20 clip on tasks lights from homedepot with daylight twister flourescent bulbs that you can get anywhere!

the third light source is my window, afternoon sun, midwinter, with the sun above the house – so not super bright, but if i was taking pictures in the evening i would need another couple lights to replace it i think.

i had planned to go the whole light box box route and build movable sides and covers for the lights to get them more diffuse, but it really wasn’t necessary. there are no harsh shadows the way it is, and the covers/lightbox cut down on the light so i would just have to add more. maybe if i got higher wattage lights i would need covers but these ones don’t need it (they are 100w equivalents 21 watts actual i believe)

having missed christmas completely as far as clothing went, the little girls are trying on variations of red and pink for valentines day instead.

this was kiri’s choice

lucy’s back

  • Posted on January 25, 2013 at 10:29 am

lucy is back with a new faceup. she was really rough on her old one, multiple scratches and lost lashes in just a week, but her new face captured pretty much what i loved about the old one so it is all good. i’m not sure what is getting into the littlefees lately though. they are all attitude when it comes to clothes and pictures. i’d expect that from the teenagers, but not the ‘fees!

lucy is also going through a phase of only wearing black, not a goth sort of black, she is into an urban chic sort of black. i have to admit it really suits her and looks great against that flaming red hair.

eilidh gets a new look

  • Posted on January 23, 2013 at 2:40 pm

eilidh got a new faceup recently – actually the same time kiri did- and we have been trying to figure out what to do about her hair since it just wasn’t right somehow. we tried a lot of different red wigs, but just couldn’t find “the one”. then one day we were playing in the wig box looking for a wig for lucy and eilidh discovered an old wig of ellyce’s. it was exactly the right color and length, it just needed some restyling….
eilidh's new look
personally i think it still could use some restyling, but eilidh seems to really like the wild mop head look!

with her makeup and hair sorted out she happily chose a new top to model.
this cherry red sparkly twist collared top is the first one in my new line of tops for littlefees in my etsy store – and it fits the honey delfs and bids too!

i made two of them, so eilidh gets to keep this one.

but there is one more available for sale

rub a dub dub wee girls in a tub

  • Posted on January 10, 2013 at 1:03 pm

to try and keep up with my new years resolutions for at least the first week, here is this weeks post, three of my wee girls together in the bubble bath scrubbing clean after a morning or finger painting, in which they got more paint on themselves than the paper.

new years resolutions

  • Posted on January 2, 2013 at 5:46 pm

what is it about new years that leads us to make resolutions? most of which don’t last past the first week, if they even make it past the first day. it does seem to be a time of new beginnings though, so i am going to make a couple myself.

1. i resolve to post at least once a week on this blog. i’d say every day but that is totally unrealistic and i know i wouln’t even make it to the end of the first week. once a week is more than i managed last year, so it is a stretch, but doable.

2. new pictures on flickr at least as often so my blog has pictures not just text 😉

3. add littlefee and realpuki sizes to my etsy store this year.

4. the last is a personal goal. we have 3 family weddings coming up in the next year and a half. occasions that will force me to wear something other than my standard t-shirts and yoga pants. so my resolution is to to lose 20lbs by the first wedding in july and 30lbs by the end of the year.
