if violet is purple, how can it be yellow?

this beauty was a little past her prime, but lady’s slippers are fairly rare around here, so i’ll take what i can get.

windy days and dreams of summer
“de wind she blow lak hurricane,
Bime by she blow some more”
that’s a line my dad used to quote on windy days. i never knew where it was from but it often seemed apropos here.
today the wind did blow “lak hurricane”, whipping away the little snow that fell and leaving the world still cold and gray. but inside i was thankful to be warm and cozy, dreaming of the summer….
so once again i dip in to my stock of summer wild flowers and pretend the sun is shining.
brown eyed susan
meadow parsnip
shrubby cinquefoil

time for a “springy” picture. it snowed here last night. the white is really pretty but not quite deep enough to make for interesting shots yet, so i’ll post an old one instead. (i’m really not a winter person anyway)

oddly enough, i seldom re-read my blog posts after i have posted them. so when i did look back through the archives yesterday, i was rather surprised to see how often i jump from pictures taken the day of the post, to pictures taken over the summer that i just haven’t done anything with before. looking through the blog would lead one to believe that our weather/seasons switch constantly back and forth. now while that is true to a large degree here, we don’t usually have flowers blooming in november. π
however staying consistent with my inconsistencies, i have for your amusement today some lovely yellow flowers that brighten up my day at least, and help me forget, for a moment or two, that it snowed last night.
