we went up to the kananaskis lake to take some pictures and the girls found a perfect spot to set up a lemonade stand. amberglas figured all the hikers would be thirsty when they got back. crystalorn said since no one else was selling snacks, they could make a fortune. now if only they had some lemons…….
delicate wonders
miniature white blooms, almost too small to see unless you pay close attention
i wonder why i like forget-me-nots so much when they grow on a mountain-side, but pull them as pernicious weeds when they grow in my garden?
queen’s cup
once again an odd choice of names. i can imagine titania becoming very frustrated as the liquid pours out between the petals whilst she tries to drink….
peppermint drops
i’m getting better at identifying wildflowers, but this one has me stumped
this is the same flower still in bud. the weather changes so drastically in the mountains that if you go far enough you can see the same plant in all the stages from just poking through to past it’s bloom all on the same day.
flutter by butterfly
we saw a lot of butterflies while hiking, but most of them didn’t stay still long enough to photograph. these little guys were very obliging.
what is in a name?
this beauty is prosaically entitled “cow parsnip”, a name that doesn’t really suit it’s intriguing look. now i have nothing at all against cows, (though i must admit to intensely disliking parsnips), but to me this looks more like a fireworks explosion captured in time, than either a cow or parsnip.
